Garcia faces injury battle
Reigning Abu Dhabi Golf Champion, Sergio Garcia’s defence of his title could be in jeopardy as the Spaniard battles a serious hand injury.
The 29-year-old has been feeling pain in his right hand since he sprained his wrist during the third round of last month’s Dubai World Championship, where he finished seventh.
Garcia, who earned $2.4million in prize money last season, will now seek advice from a specialist about the injury in the hope of defending his only title of 2009 in Abu Dhabi on January 21 – an event with a $3.3million purse.
”The hand is not well, it’s not healing as fast as we thought it would,” said Garcia of the injury.
”Even with the rest it’s not better and we’re a little bit worried. I’ve tried to swing and I can’t, but I’d like to start the tournament at Abu Dhabi completely healed.”
